make worlds

Digital producer, creative technologist, 30 years in the making.

Hi, I'm Simon Harrison. I've spent nearly 30 years making things that didn't exist before — chart-topping games, large-scale interactive installations, VR training systems, and full-stack web applications. I care deeply about craft, and about the people who use what I build.

Game Design· Probe Entertainment / Acclaim· 1999

A toy car racing game that hit number one.

I co-created and designed Re-Volt from the ground up — world design, track layout, vehicle handling feel, the lot. It shipped in 1999, charted number one on the App Store and console charts, and still has an active modding community today. My first credit as Lead Designer.

Interactive Installation· QUT Cube· 2019

AI sea life and mathematically grown coral.

As Studio Manager at QUT Cube, I led the team that built The Living Reef — an AI-driven interactive STEM experience featuring procedurally generated coral reef ecosystems. It was later extended for an ABC TV coral spawning special. I secured full IP ownership of every asset from the outset, including commissioning an Indigenous design agency for the identity.

Six full-motion VR units deployed at Port Hedland.

I produced a VR train simulator for BHP that now runs across six full-motion units at their Port Hedland site. The project spanned distributed teams across WA, Hong Kong, and NSW, a complex multi-business-unit stakeholder pipeline, and real-world testing with practising train drivers. Delivered on time.

A little background

about me

I've been making interactive things since before the web existed, and I haven't gotten tired of it yet.

I started as a 3D modeller at Probe Entertainment in the mid-nineties, shipped Re-Volt as Lead Designer in 1999, and spent the years that followed building games for THQ, leading artist teams in London, and teaching game design at university. Each chapter built on the last.

From 2014 to 2021 I ran the studio team at QUT Cube — the largest digital interactive education space in the world — managing a multidisciplinary team of nine, a budget of around $3M annually, and delivering eight large-scale interactive projects. In 2021 I moved into XR production at Real Serious Games, where I produce VR training systems for some of Australia's largest infrastructure clients.

Alongside all of that, I've been quietly building full-stack web applications on my own. Four in the last year. I do it because I love the craft, and because nothing teaches you about product like shipping your own.
